Spread The Risk Around
Make no mistake, stock investing is a risky process. Lots of people make money doing so, but people also lose money as well. When it comes to investing, the old saying about not putting all of your eggs in one basket applies. To minimize risk of loss, it is often a good idea to invest in a number of different companies whether that be penny stocks or high value blue chips and in a number of different business sectors.
High Growth
If you are not adverse to taking a little risk, consider investing in high growth companies. Typically, a high grown company is a new company that has fresh ideas and innovative management to go along with their new product or service that they are offering. Though many of these companies do not pay out dividends initially, they often pay off greater in the long run. The main risk comes with the fact that the management may not be able to handle the rapid growth of the company.
Investment Banking
If your main goal is to simply see capital growth based off of your initial investment and all you want to do is generate income off of your investments, many go the safe route of investing in government-issued bonds and interest-bearing bank accounts. However, stocks that pay regular dividends might be more lucrative. To determine which route you would want to go, compare the interest rates of the accounts and bonds to the dividends paid out by the companies.
Value Investing
If taking the long view interests you more than generating short term capital, take a look at businesses that have tangible assets, such as patents and real estate. Also look for a proven track record and a management team that can grow the company without going overboard on taking risks to do so. Some investors also look for companies that appear to be undervalued compared to the stocks of similar companies in the same business sector. The theory is that the market will correct this undervaluing.

Employees have to share resources. This is just a common thing in the workplace. The mobile revolution has also increased the need for document sharing outside of the office. People now have tablet PCs and smartphones. Lots of employees are mobile. Sometimes they tunnel directly in to the internal network. Sometimes they do not. It is pertinent to have access to virtual storage that will efficiently allow users to share documents.
Virtual storage lockers like DropBox have become very important for people that want to share files. This is the best way to get documents to your employees. Everyone can sign up for a DropBox account and get documents shared on a public folder. This is so convenient because it gives employees access to files regardless of whether they can connect to the company network. They must have a secure connection though. This is very convenient because it works for phone users as well. People can download the Dropbox app and get the same files while they are in an airport or out at lunch. This is the best way to share work documents. People don’t have to sit at a desk to get their work. They can get a text or email about a document and go to their DropBox app to download it.
Email is good, but there are limitations on the file sizes. If the file is small it can usually be sent through email without any issues. Bigger files, on the other hand, require some type of virtual storage locker. Everyone may not use DropBox because there are so many different ones available. SugarSynch is popular. Apple even has the iCloud. The DropBox platform is the most commonly used application in the workforce though.
It really comes down to what the IT department decides to approve. It is important to run things by this department first. They will have the final say in what is approved or denied. The virtual storage locker will be ineffective if network administrators block the site. That is why the plan has to be sent down from network administrators. These professionals can set a standard across the board that will be used throughout the organization. This way everyone can be on the same accord. Documents that are sensitive can be protected easily because DropBox is by invitation only. The only people that can access the folder are ones that are invited.

Office supplies seem to always be at hand when we don’t want them, yet are never to be found when we truly need them. We take for granted the paper clip, copy paper, pens and pencils we use every single day of our work lives and, often, in our private lives; but do you ever give a thought to what supplies you should always have on hand — just in case?
No one likes to think of disasters happening, but they do. Now is a good time to take a close look at the number and kinds of supplies you use in a two-week period. Supply routes into your city can be impeded by train accidents, road closures, airport delays and many other factors. Would your company be able to keep functioning if your supplier is knocked out for awhile?
Businesses need a lot of things to function properly: good employees, loyal customers, a product or service that’s really in demand; but all of that can come to a screeching halt if you run out of vital office supplies. Just think about it: how can you print a customer receipt without printer ribbon or receipt tape? You can’t very well assemble that client proposal if your magenta cartridge runs dry and it’s going to take your supplier two days to deliver a new one. And, do you really want to give your client all those pages of documentation without so much as a paperclip to keep them tidy?
With all that in mind, here’s a list of some of the more important office supplies you should make sure to always have on hand. You’ll want to add to this list the supplies that are unique to your company or business.
Everyday items:
• Pens, pencils, markers and highlighters
• Writing paper: notepads of different sizes
• Photocopy paper: one kind for the black-and-white printer and another for the color printer, standard size and legal
• Removable notes: for temporary use on documents, available in different sizes and colors
• Filing supplies: manila folders (regular and legal sizes), report folders, three-ring binders of varying sizes
• Staples, staplers, adhesive tape, binder and paper clips, glue, push pins and rubber bands.
• Calendars and planners
Not as common:
• Toner cartridge: color printers can have up to four cartridges (one for each color)
• Printer ribbon and receipt tape
• Paper shredder: important for those confidential documents
• Presentation boards (like white boards), plus markers and erasers
• Calculators
• Batteries
• Cleaning supplies, if you don’t use a service: waste cans, plastic liners, paper towels and tissues
• Mailing supplies: envelopes of various sizes, stamps. If you use specialty mailing / delivery companies, they often give you envelopes and other supplies free of charge. Also, boxes of various sizes if you need them to deliver or mail products.
• CDs and DVDs: onto which you can burn data for customers or as backups
Post this list in your supply cabinet or somewhere readily accessible so that you can refer to it readily.
Remember: in the case of office supplies, it’s the small things that really do matter.

If you are running a business in todays global economy the chances are great that you use a variety of computer programs and business software in order to keep your company moving and on the cutting edge. And you depend on these programs and applications to be working when you need them. So it is of the utmost importance to make sure that all of your systems and business software programs are kept up to date. Keeping your operating systems, applicant tracking software as well as your programs and applications up to date will also help defend your computers and your network from a potentially crippling virus or malicious software attack.
One of the most important first steps in keeping your computer systems up to date is to make sure you download and apply updates and security patches for your operating system as soon as they are released. This is the first line of defense against attack and can help your other installed software run more smoothly as well. The best way to do this is to schedule your computer to download and install system and security up dates automatically. In order to avoid slowing down the computer when you are working you can schedule systems to check for updates and install them during off hours. Many businesses schedule all of their computers to do this during the overnight hours around 3am, this allows the computers to be fully updated without slowing down productivity.
In addition to keeping the operating system up to date, your installed applications also need to be updated regularly. Most programs and business software can be set to check for updates automatically and install them in the background even while you work. Doing this will not only patch any possible security holes in the programs but can also allow new features to be added by the publisher.
Doing these two critical actions in keeping your operating system and your business software up to date can help you avoid costly computer or network down time due to an attack by a virus or other malicious program and will plug the holes most often exploited by hackers. And in a fast paced global economy if your system is down, your profits can be going down too.

Preparing for college can be a daunting task. There are many items that need to be taken care of. Being organized can alleviate the challenges of preparation. Make a checklist to ensure that nothing is missed. Three things to be considered are what degree, school choice and cost. Taking time to do research before making any decisions will ensure satisfaction in the choices made.
Major:
Choice of degree will have a long standing impact. This is not something to be taken lightly. If there is indecision on career path, there are skills tests available to match your likes and abilities to different fields.
What School:
Choosing a school is a big responsibility. The initial decision will have a long standing impact on the future. Make sure that the school(s) being considered has/have higher learning accreditation. Failure to do so will result in wasted time and money. There are many diploma mills lurking around and investigating accreditation is necessary.
There will also be an application process. Check to see what documentation will need to accompany the application. Some colleges may require recommendation letters or essays as part of the acceptance process.
Cost:
Many people will pay for their education with student loans, scholarships or grants. There are many scholarship programs and grants available to reduce the out-of-pocket expenses. Check your State and Federal Government for any scholarship and grant opportunities. Many of these are based upon income. Other factors could include program choice, ethnic background, or grade point average from high school.
Consider taking general education courses at a local college. Doing so will help to reduce the cost. If the decision hasn’t been made on degree choice, two years at a local college allows more time to finalize plans. Most colleges offer credit for passing CLEP exams for some classes.
A CLEP exam is a test that can be taken to show knowledge in certain areas. Many colleges will take a passing score as credit for some first year classes. This is a huge cost saver and should be considered. Check with the college for CLEP opportunities.
Lastly, don’t be afraid to find a tutor for your CLEP exam. It is a difficult process to study on your own but with a tutor it may alleviate some of the pressures. To search for a tutor in your area, go into Google and type in your city with the keyword tutor behind it. For example, you would type in “San Diego tutors” if you were in that area.
Getting prepared to attend business school involves many decisions. The choices that are made will have a life time impact. Items to consider are what school to attend, what major to pursue and cost of the education. Using a checklist will keep everything organized and moving down the road to success.

Signage is important for businesses of all types and sizes. Signs aren’t only used as markers for customers in search of your location, but as marketing tools as well. Choosing a creative sign can help draw customers to your business while giving potential customers information about what kind of store you are.
Neon:
A neon sign might seem like a big investment for many businesses, but a properly placed one can help drive a lot of traffic to your location. By choosing a neon sign you optimize the hours that people can see your sign simply because neon can be seen at night. Neon signs do cost more than most upfront, and yes, they will increase your energy bill. But if you run a business that offers a product or service that many people need, dry cleaning for example, the extra costs created by the sign will likely generate enough new business that you’ll end up making more profit in the long run. The backlit letters are particularly beneficial if your storefront is hard to see from the street.
Handmade Signs:
A handmade sign has several benefits for businesses, especially small boutique-style businesses. A handmade sign will look unique – not like a mass-produced sign or vinyl banner that you see all over strip malls and countless big retail stores throughout the world. A handmade sign may also be cheaper if you get the right person to make it. When shopping for a handmade sign consider hiring a local artist or graphic designer to make something for you that relates to your business. Using a handmade sign will also let customers know that you’re not a chain, which is important for many shoppers today that no longer want to support big-box retailers with sketchy operating practices.
FREE!
Signs that proclaim visitors will get something free just for visiting or purchasing a product or service may not be the absolute height of creative marketing, but they definitely work. When choosing what you want to advertise, pick a promotion that will want to make customers return to your business. For example, using the dry cleaning analogy, you could offer to launder a new customer’s first item for free to see how they like your work. Or you could offer free laundering services on one item for every 10 that they pay for at full price. It might seem like a gimmick, but free products or services never fail to attract customers. Just make sure your sign easy to see from the street.
Whatever type of sign you choose, a creative one can help attract people to your business. You don’t have to spend a fortune. Just make sure your sign is easy to read from all vantage points and clearly states what you do.

People that have been marketing online are fortunate enough to have technology that allows them to check their progress. This is one of the great things about using these type for marketing campaigns. There is an easier way to track the progress thanks to Tatango.com.
One of the best things about email and text messaging is that there is software that can tell people if their messages are being delivered. There are apps that tell marketing agencies if people are actually opening these text messages. This is effective because it helps advertisers narrow their focus.
The objective of these marketing campaigns can get lost if no one is getting the message. So often people will look at the fact that they have sent out tons of messages. They assume that getting the message out is the most important part. They sit back and rest without any knowledge of whether the messages have been received. That was the way things were done in the past.
Today there are software applications or websites that track text messages that come straight from a phone. There are also applications that can monitor received messages directly from email. This is usually done by setting up rules on the sender or the message title. From this point it becomes easier for people behind the campaigns to pult their time into other things. They don’t have to sit back waiting for a response from everyone. All that they have to do is check the statistics and see how things are going.
The Internet is where lots of information is tracked. It can often tell things like the demographics of the recipient if they respond to the email. It can also help people figure out what recipients are more likely to respond to other messages. This is how presidential campaigns are typically run with technology. They can get automated messages out to millions of people. The marketers can check to see what is working and revise plans in accordance to the people that are responding to it.
When people track their messages through email they can usually receive the results back through an email. There are software applications that can do all the work after this is setup. The application can send the advertisers a daily or weekly message of the statistics behind their campaign. Email and texting has become a popular and tracking applications are very valuable.

Small business owners stand to gain a lot through the acquisition of a business credit card. These credit lines are normally higher than a personal card, and they can help the business procure products and services they may need to keep their operations smooth. Credit card companies offer perks for businesses to help promote their company.
The Chase Ink Cash credit card has received a high level of interest among the small business community. The card carries no annual fee, and new cardholders receive a $250 sign on bonus. Furthermore, business owners enjoy the fact that they receive up to 5% cash back on their office supply and cable services and 2% cash back on gasoline and restaurants. Many small business owners who don’t particularly need a credit card have signed up for the Chase Ink Cash card simply to employ its use for these kinds of purchases in order to take advantage of the rewards. When used properly, this card has a lot to offer its users.
Another increasingly popular card that is worth considering for small business owners is the The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card. While it can be used as a personal or business card, small businesses enjoy the added benefit of receiving points for high usage; cardholders who spend $3,000 during their first three months of participation receive a whopping 40,000 points. They also offer 10 points per dollar spent at Chase’s online mall, two points per dollar spent at restaurants and various travel expenses and one point for every other dollar spent. Since businesses tend to spend more money than individuals, it is easy to see how quickly these points can start to add up. While many are turned off by the $95 annual fee, it is waived for the first year of use, and the points that can be accumulated can prove worth the investment. Something else that’ll help your small business is Amburapp’s iPad POS solution. For anyone who will be taking credit card payments, this is a good, economical, and professional way to accept credit card
The TrueEarnings Card from Costco and American Express is another popular small business credit card as it functions both as a credit card and a Costco membership card. Users receive 3% cash back on gasoline, 2% cash back on travel and restaurants and 1% back on nearly everything else the card is used to purchase.
Business owners who are able to pay their balance off every month can truly benefit through the use of these versatile tools. The wise use of a small business credit card can actually put more money back.

When it comes to office décor and the affect is has on productivity, many corporations do not have their employees high on the list. They usually go for cheap, easy to clean office décor. However, according to researchers, sterile office settings may cause employees to feel detached and uneasy in the workplace, which in turn has an impact on work productivity.
Colors for the office:
The monotonous office colors with the dreary browns and beiges are driving workers up the walls. Reports show that the majority of office workers feel that the color of their surroundings has an influence on their disposition and their performance. “This is true,” states a color consultant. Color has a profound affect on an individual’s state of mind and health. The right colors will stimulate workers to think more clearly and react more positively.
Office lighting:
Natural light:
Who wants to work in a muted, discolored office or one that is illuminated like a Christmas tree? Natural light is the best lighting. It decreases eyestrain and makes workspaces seem larger. Natural light also standardizes human circadian rhythms and assists in prompting the production of Vitamin D. Proper lighting in the workplace not only influences productivity but is energy efficient as well.
Artificial light:
Although artificial lighting is important, it is imperative to get it perfect. Too much illumination, especially overhead fluorescent lighting, has been the blame for fatigue, anxiety, migraines, stress, SAD, and hypertension. Too little illumination can cause eyestrain, depression, and poor posture. In short, bad lighting in the workplace leads to unproductive workers.
Office furniture:
The dull usual neutral or dark brown office furniture is passé. If not, the offices employees sure wish it were. Companies should invest in office chairs, cabinets, and desk that are functional, stylish, and comfortable. Ergonomic office leather recliner chairs would be a great start. A study carried out by Staples, Inc shows that 86 percent of office workers report being uncomfortable sitting in their office chairs to such a degree that it affects their productivity.
Office plants:
Indoor plants look beautiful and create a healthy environment. This statement has nothing to do with the dusty artificial plants stuck in a corner found in offices and reception areas everywhere you turn. A study carried out by one prestigious university says that healthy indoor plants can reduce stress, help keep the indoor air fresh, and humidifies the workplace.
Summary:
Overall, maintaining an up-to-date, clean workplace guarantees a more productive worker. The investment a corporation makes to enhance the office environment will pay off in productivity in the long run.
